Thanks for the link Ron! You're absolutely right in saying that as time goes on, these senior executives will slowly pick up on this stuff, especially when it's no longer "special." These tools will become just that - tools that we use to do our jobs.

I enjoyed your story in all three parts, and in particular this piece about How to address Senior Managers when it comes to using social media. Interestingly enough, on one of our sites CIOZone.com we are having a similar discussion in our CIOConversations Forum Topic...
Adversary Exploitation of Social Media:

I think the world is just at the tip of a very large iceberg and as more senior level folks become familiar with the benefits of Social Media you will see them become more than just involved with it in passing. They truly will embrace all the positives you can derive from Social media especially professional social media.

I just went through this process to get an open LinkedIn group started -- yes, that was it, but it's a baby step in the right direction. It helps to have examples of other social media/networking successes by organizations similar to yours, so they don't feel like they're mavericks. If their respected peers from other organizations are going down the social networking/media path, have examples of that too (in my case, screenshots of a fellow CEO's LinkedIn profile and the groups he belonged to). Imagine what their fears will be and address those, but most importantly show how the company's (or in my case, the association's) work can be enhanced by that new tool/platform/effort. Most importantly, don't disdain their fears and hesitancies, acknowledge them as important and understandable, and then address each one.

And as to passion, make sure that you come across as well-researched and thoughtful as well as passionate. They may mistake passion for enthusiasm for a new toy, and not take you seriously if you can't back it up with facts and a solid argument.
